Star Products (Pty) Ltd. was established in 1971, manufacturing high-protein soup powder. The company concentrated primarily on school feeding schemes and achieved considerable success. This success has allowed Star Products to broaden its product range to include soya-based products such as minces, stews and breedies, vitamin enriched cooldrink powders, high energy chocolate beverages and grocery lines such as jelly and custard powders, batter mix, puddings and spices. With a more comprehensive product range, Star Products has expanded its customer base and is servicing the hospitals in Southern Africa. Most of these hospitals now have contract caterers and Star Products is proud to be regular suppliers to them. The company also supplies non-profit organisations (who in turn feed destitute families), wholesale and retail stores, old age homes and the RDP through a Primary School Nutrition Programme. In 1994, Star Products embarked on an expansion programme. State of the art packaging equipment was purchased to accommodate the increase in retail and wholesale sales. A new factory of over 1000 square metres was built to enable a production capacity of 450 tons per product per month. Mr Cyril Sanson, director of Star Products, said the success of the company was the result of a "hands on" approach concentrating on service and quality of prices everyone can afford. |
